Lower el students read the book Chameleons are Cool by Martin Jenkins. We learned chameleons are reptiles that live in the Rainforest, have long sticky tongues, and eyes than can see in all different directions at the same time. Why? So they can watch out for predators or prey. The most interesting fact was that chameleons change colors because they get angry, afraid, cold or warm – NOT to match their surroundings. I didn’t know that! After some interesting discussions, we did a step by step lesson on drawing the chameleon. Next, we used texture plates to mimic the rough, scaly, striped skin, then painted the sky.
