Upper elementary students at Brooks Elementary kicked off the year creating self portraits in the style of artist Roy Lichtenstein. He was an American pop artist who became a leader in the new art movement along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and others. Students learned the basic elements of drawing a self portrait with the unusual twist of adding thoughts and phrases that reflected their interests and personality. Week one they sketched out their face in pencil and outlined in sharpie. Weeks two and three they added color with markers or colored pencil. Below are a few examples from various classes.

We kicked off the year at Oxbow with our Art Room fundraiser project. Upper el students created self portraits or other designs they chose. Lower el created fish and kindy painted hearts. This is one of my favorite lessons and I was happy that the company sends free stickers to every family. My mother still has the plates she had ordered that were created from our kindergarten paintings. Below are a few examples of the top notch artwork our students designed and created. These will come home in early December. |
