To end the year, students in third through fifth grader created a colorful weaving project at Oxbow and Brooks. This was a slow process (excellent for fine motor skills) but eventually all students finished. Some students decided to add colorful buttons and others added fringe. I loved hearing students comment that they were learning to sew at home, or this reminded them of knitting with their mom or aunt!

This was a fun end of the year lesson for our kindergartners. I had students draw a huge fish, then use texture plates to color it in using warm colors. The following week we watched Eric Carle's video "The Picture Writer" where he demonstrates how he paints his papers to use in making his collages for books like The Very Hungry Caterpillar. Then students painted their own ocean papers using blue tempera and white for waves. It was a very engaging lesson!
