Upper elementary students at Brooks Elementary kicked off the year creating self portraits in the style of artist Roy Lichtenstein. He was an American pop artist who became a leader in the new art movement along with Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns and others. Students learned the basic elements of drawing a self portrait with the unusual twist of adding thoughts and phrases that reflected their interests and personality. Week one they sketched out their face in pencil and outlined in sharpie. Weeks two and three they added color with markers or colored pencil. Below are a few examples from various classes.
