This kindy lesson began with reading Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Next we talked about the importance of sharing and treating others kindly even if they aren't our best friend. This book is an excellent kick off to a deeper lesson on showing kindness to others and accepting others who might be different. (Week two I read Rainbow Fish and the Big Blue Whale and others from the series). I invited the students to also include other ocean friends for Rainbow Fish. They colored their fish in rainbow colors, painted the ocean in whatever wild whimsical colors they wanted, then added cut paper seaweed and a touch of glitter for the silver scale if they wanted it (most did). I loved the finger prints in the water and other carefree touches.
