Sticking with the idea of color and texture, first graders learned how to draw chameleons. Mr. Fabinski read Chameleon, Chameleon by Joy Cowler. Afterwards, they had a discussion about how chameleons can change color to blend into their environment. This is called Camouflage. As a result of this discussion, students created beautiful chameleons that can be seen in the hallways at Oxbow Elementary!!!!
Mr. Fabinski, our student teacher, taught the second graders how to draw frogs for our Rainforest Unit. Students learned how to look at and breakdown frogs into their simple shapes. After watching a video on Rainforest frogs, students talked about color and texture. They learned that texture is what we feel when we touch something and that artist create implied texture into their work. Students did this by using texture plates to create texture for their little colorful friends.
